Matt Hawksley
Matt
comes to the Philadelphia Sports Training Center as the current national
champion in the masters high jump for the 30-34 year old age bracket. After
a successful collegiate career in track and field at Mount St. Mary’s
College in Emmitsburg, MD, Matt has recently returned to competition in the
jumping events and the sprints for masters USATF. At the Mount, he was
instrumental in leading the team to two consecutive conference
championships. During his senior year, he finished 7th overall in
the Division I IC4A Championship in the decathlon. He also finished 7th in
the Penn Relays decathlon that same year, winning the 400 meters and 100
meters. In addition to the decathlon, Matt also ran the leadoff leg on the
4x100 relay team that broke the school record with a time of 40.8. His
determination and versatility led him to several all-conference awards in
the high jump, long jump, and relay events and he currently remains in the
top 20 all-time at Mount St. Mary’s in over 10 events. As a senior, in
recognition of his dedication and exceptional performance, he was given the
Kolon Award as the school’s top athlete.
Matt has a degree in both
Business Administration and French and has worked in international business
for several years. He studied abroad in Cannes, France and most recently
spent 2 years working and living abroad in Antwerp, Belgium. He is a USATF
Certified Track and Field coach and is currently working towards becoming a
Specialist in Performance Nutrition.
As a
performance coach for Philadelphia Sports Training Center, his experience
and knowledge provides a good tool for student-athletes aspiring to reach
their fullest potential.
